JAMAICANS SHINE AT FIRST CAYMAN INVITATIONAL

BLAKE, WEIR, PARCHMENT - BIG WINS IN CAYMAN

Yohan Blake continued his winning ways on Wednesday, posting the second fastest time over the 100 meters this year, at the inaugural Cayman Invitational Meet.  The World Champion clocked an impressive 9.84 second, just 0.02 seconds outside his personal best and the current world leading time set by Usain Bolt.   Micheal Frater was second to Blake in (10.05) and while Trinidad and Tobago’s Keston Bledman (10.06) was third.

The ever improving Warren Weir defeated a quality 200m field, which included American Shawn Crawford, in a new person best of 20.13 seconds.

Novlene Williams-Mills, registered a comfortable win in the 400m with 50.35 seconds following up on her victory in Kingston on the weekend.

Hansle Parchment came up with a big win in the men’s sprint hurdles registering a time of 13.31 seconds. The time itself was not that impressive, however the quality of the field spoke volumes of the 21-year-old victory.  He defeated American Joel Brown (13.31, same time).  USA’s 2007 World and 2008 Olympic medallist David Payne (13.41) and Barbados’ 2009 World champion Ryan Brathwaite (13.47) were third and fourth, respectively.
