SAFA, VCB, EDGED OUT IN DOHA
Jamaica's Asafa Powell suffered a rare defeat to Justin Gatlin (9.87) in the men's 100 metres at Friday's Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar. Powell was edged out on the line after leading for most of the race placing second in 9.88 seconds. Fellow Jamaicans Lerone Clarke (9.99), Nesta Carter (10.05) and Jacques Harvey (10.14) finished the race third, fifth and seventh respectively.
Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shelly-Ann Fraser Price were both denied the top spot in the women's 100 metres by American Allyson Felix. Felix won the race in 10.92, to VCB's 10.94 for second and Fraser-Price 11.00 for third. Kerron Stewart (11.16) and Sherone Simpson (11.22) were seventh and eight respectively.
Melaine Walker set a new world leading time of 54.62 to win the women's 400 metres hurdles over her compatriot Kaliese Spencer 54.99. Stephanie McPherson finished the race in 58.61.
In the women's 100 metres hurdles, Brigitte Foster-Hylton continued her good early season form to take victory in 12.60
Marvin Anderson (20.42), Mario Forsythe (20.53) and Rasheed Dwyer (20.60) finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the men's 200 metres behind the winner Walter Dix, USA, (20.02).
